An energy audit conducted on one of our clients, a major food processing company has identified measures able to more than halve its energy usage annually. The audit indicated that with the implementation of the total of all the savings measures identified and the application of an Energy Management Plan, the company could expect to reduce its electricity, gas and water usage by 30 percent and deliver total cost savings of £50,000 allowing the investment in energy improvement to be paid back in less than 3 years.
The company was finding its energy costs on an ever increasing basis year on year and was keen to find a way to reverse this worrying trend and reduce the burden of energy without impacting on both production and operations and employed the services of Argyle Energy to carry out an energy audit of their site to determine where and how savings might be made.
Following a review of their buildings, processes and utilities we provided the client with a detailed report which identified the key areas for improvement and to maximize saving opportunities. For example; the audit highlighted that the upgrading of the existing inefficient fluorescent lights with more efficient lamps, the replacement of high-bay high wattage lights and outdoor flood lights, along with the installation of motion and daylight harvesting sensors, zone lighting, and improving the use of available natural day lighting, led to a significant overall reduction in lighting energy consumption and cost.
Further an internal energy efficiency awareness campaign was suggested and implemented by Argyle Energy to encourage behavioral change in using energy efficient equipment. For example ‘switch off’ signs placed near light switches, appliances and power points to encourage staff and operatives to minimise usage have also helped the company realize additional savings.
It was also identified that the site supply electrical conditioning could be made to perform more efficiently via power factor correction and voltage reduction equipment.
The energy audit indicated that with the implementation of the total of all the savings measures identified and the application of an Energy Management Plan, the Company could expect to reduce its energy usage by 30% percent and deliver total cost savings in excess of £50,000.
In addition to identifying areas where savings could be made, Argyle Energy became responsible for the procurement and management of the site electricity, gas and water contracts, ensuring that both the price paid and the amount used were controlled by us, allowing the business to concentrate on other important matters.
